POTASSIUM CHLORIDE is chemically represented by the formula KCl and is also known by the name muriate of potash.

Recommended Treatment

POTASSIUM CHLORIDE can be added through the mud hopper. Drilling conditions and system requirements will determine the concentration needed. It is suggested that the potassium ion level be monitored by approved test methods, including the specific ion electrode technique, in order to determine the tourly treatment levels to follow.

POTASSIUM CHLORIDE has been evaluated in Oren Hydrocarbons Me Inc. Bioassay Program. The United States Environmental Protection Agency's (US EPA) Drilling Fluids Toxicity Test gave an LC50 of 92,000 ppm of the suspended particulate phase (SPP) for 3% weight of POTASSIUM CHLORIDE in a generic #7 mud system.
